Driven by a need for vengeance, Red Hulk, civilian name Thaddeus E. "Thunderbolt" Ross, was first introduced as an antagonist, fighting for the Leader. Falcon battled Red Hulk to help break the Leader's mind control over him.

Red Hulk wants revenge on the Hulk because he accidentally destroyed his hometown while Red Hulk was at boot camp, killing the people there.
