Premium Characters are characters that cost Shards (the premium in-game currency) in order to add them to your Academy. These characters are not available through normal story progression, although they will have free quests introducing the characters. Some of these characters, like Baron Zemo, are only available to buy for a limited time. Others, like War Machine and Spider-Woman, are available from the start and always able to be bought from the Store for Shards. Hulk was offered from the start as an early-access character before players reached level 35. After the first story update Thor too was offered as an early-access character before players reached level 57. Still others, like Nebula, were only available during limited-time events.
